The Inland Rail has made significant progress as one of the largest freight rail infrastructure projects. Illabo to Stockinbingal section will commence construction this year as the Glenrowan’s Beaconsfield Parade bridge marks a major milestone in the Victorian section of the rail line. The Beveridge to Parkes section of the line is set to be completed by 2027. Subsequent development will see the Island Rail line connect up to Brisbane's existing freight rail network, allowing double-stacked freight trains to run from Brisbane to Melbourne.
